University of Wisconsin Diploma Cover Guide: Campus, Size and Fit

Actual Honor U University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee logo diploma cover

"University of Wisconsin" is not specific enough to buy a cover. The diploma names a campus. That campus is what you measure.

Find the campus on the diploma

The University of Wisconsin System includes separate universities. Madison is the one people often mean, and it has its own page: the UW-Madison diploma cover guide. If the diploma says University of Wisconsin-Madison, use that page, not this one.

Other campuses you may see on a diploma include Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Green Bay, Stevens Point, and Whitewater, among others. None of those should inherit a size from Madison or from each other. A Milwaukee diploma is not a Madison diploma with a different heading.

What to write down

Copy the full campus name exactly as printed, plus the degree and the year. "UW" in an order note is ambiguous. It can mean Madison, another Wisconsin campus, or a university outside the state that also uses those initials.

For a system-wide or multi-campus ceremony, collect one diploma from each campus in the order before anyone picks a cover. Matching regalia does not mean matching paper.

Then measure that campus's document

The measuring method is shared, so it is not repeated here. Follow how to measure a diploma for a cover, or the size answers on the FAQ. Measure the sheet, not the leatherette folder it arrived in and not a frame from the campus store.

A matching stock size can use a classic diploma cover. Anything else should be a made-to-fit cover. See what made-to-fit means before you round the numbers to the nearest stock size.

Marks and affiliation

Honor U does not represent the University of Wisconsin System or any of its campuses. Do not submit a campus seal or wordmark without permission to reproduce it. The cover is packaging and presentation. The diploma remains the university's document.

How to read a Wisconsin diploma before you shop

Start at the issuer line, not the mascot and not the city where the ceremony was held. If the line says University of Wisconsin-Madison, leave this page and use the Madison guide. If it names another campus, stay here and measure that campus's own page.

Campuses people bring to this order include Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Green Bay, Stevens Point, and Whitewater. A system-wide event can put several of those in one stack. Matching gowns do not mean matching paper. Pull one diploma per campus, measure each, and split the order where the numbers differ. Do not assign Milwaukee's measurement to Eau Claire because both lines begin with University of Wisconsin.

What to type in the order

Copy the campus name exactly as printed. "UW" is not a campus. Add the degree and the year, then the width and height. If you are ordering for more than one campus, make that obvious in the notes so the covers are not produced as one batch.

Foil a name, a degree, or a year. Do not send a campus seal. Measuring instructions are not on this page. They are on the size guide and in the FAQ, which is where every campus should land after the school is identified.

Questions that come up for the Wisconsin system

My diploma says University of Wisconsin and then a city. Which guide is this?

If the city is Madison, use the Madison page. Any other city stays on this page, and you still measure that diploma rather than a Madison one.

Can a parent order covers for graduates from two Wisconsin campuses?

Yes, as two lines. Measure each diploma and do not average them into one size.

Does the system publish one cover size Honor U can use?

No size is published here, and Honor U will not guess one. The campus named on the diploma controls the measurement.

With the campus confirmed and the page measured, see the diploma covers that come in standard sizes.
