UW-Madison Diploma Cover Guide: Size, Fit and Ordering Tips

Red Honor U diploma cover with gold foil UW-Madison lettering

Stay on this page only if the diploma reads University of Wisconsin-Madison. A cover for Madison is not a cover for every school in the Wisconsin system.

Madison is one campus

UW-Madison is the Madison university, not a nickname for Milwaukee or the system as a whole. If the issuer line names another campus, go to the University of Wisconsin campus guide and measure that campus's own diploma. Do not scale a Madison product photo onto a different campus.

Within Madison, colleges and professional programs can still issue different sheets. Law, medicine, and an undergraduate college are not safe to treat as one size because they share a commencement weekend. Note the college and the year beside the measurement.

Class and alumni orders

An alumni order is the usual place this goes wrong. A diploma from 1998 and a diploma from last May can both say Madison and still differ in size or orientation. Measure the document being covered. If the order spans several years or colleges, group the pages that actually match and split the rest.

Measuring and ordering

The step-by-step measurement is published once, on the diploma measuring guide, with the short version in the FAQ. Take the frame off first. Include the full paper, edge to edge.

Madison graduates who land on a stock size can order from the diploma title covers. A non-stock sheet goes to made-to-fit. The made-to-fit article explains how that order is specified.

School marks

Honor U is not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Leave the crest and wordmark off the cover unless you have permission to use them. A name, degree, or class year is the imprint that does not imply the university made the cover. The cover does not certify the diploma.

Madison programs that should not share a measurement

A University of Wisconsin-Madison diploma can come from Letters and Science, Engineering, the business school, Education, Agricultural and Life Sciences, or from a professional school such as Law, Medicine and Public Health, Pharmacy, or Veterinary Medicine. Those are all Madison. They are not a reason to skip measuring. A law diploma and an undergraduate diploma from the same May can differ, and an older professional diploma can differ from a current one.

Milwaukee is not a stand-in for Madison. If the diploma names Milwaukee or any campus other than Madison, use the University of Wisconsin campus guide and measure that document. A red cover in a Madison bookstore is not a size either.

Alumni orders

This is the order that most often arrives with the wrong numbers. Someone measures a frame from a reunion, or a scan of a diploma that includes the frame shadow, and treats it as the paper size. Take the document out. Measure the paper. If the group includes more than one decade or more than one school, sort the pages into groups that actually match before you pick a quantity.

Notes should say University of Wisconsin-Madison, the school or college, the year, and the two measurements. Foil a name, a degree, or a year. Leave the crest off. Non-stock pages go to made-to-fit. The steps for measuring sit on one guide, not on this campus page.

Questions that come up for UW-Madison

The diploma says Madison. Can I use a Wisconsin system size?

There is no system size on the other Wisconsin page either. Madison is measured from the Madison diploma in front of you.

We have graduates from several Madison schools. Is one sample enough?

One sample covers the people whose diploma matches that sample. A second school needs its own finished example, or its own measurement, before you approve the quantity.

Can the cover say Bucky or just Wisconsin?

Use the degree, a name, or the class year. A nickname or a crest implies a mark you may not have the right to print. The campus name, if you include it, should read University of Wisconsin-Madison.
