USC Diploma Cover Guide: Confirm Your School, Size and Fit

"USC" is not a size, and it is not one school. Order a cover only after you have read the full institution name printed on the diploma.

Which USC is on the document

The two names people mix up are the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, and the University of South Carolina, in Columbia. They are different universities. A cover, a foil line, or a measurement meant for one of them does not transfer to the other.

Southern California is also not a University of California campus. UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Davis are separate schools with their own documents. Do not borrow a size from a UC guide because the search results sat next to each other.

On the diploma, copy the full name, the school or college inside the university, and the year. Initials in an order note are how the wrong campus gets printed. If you want the school named on the cover, spell it out.

Do not assume one USC document

Inside the University of Southern California, an undergraduate diploma and a professional-school document are not automatically the same sheet. Health sciences and University Park graduates should each be measured from their own diploma, not from a photo of someone else's cover.

The same rule applies at the University of South Carolina if that is the name on your page. This guide is about telling the schools apart. It is not a published size chart for either one.

Two campuses in Los Angeles, and a different university in South Carolina

At the University of Southern California, University Park and the Health Sciences Campus do not hand out one shared sheet just because both say USC. A professional diploma from the health sciences side and an undergraduate diploma from University Park should be measured separately. Do not use a photo from one ceremony to order for the other.

The University of South Carolina is a separate institution in Columbia. Its system also includes campuses such as USC Upstate and USC Aiken. A cover, a foil line, or a measurement for any of those does not transfer to Los Angeles, and the reverse is just as wrong. If the diploma does not say the city or the full name, read it again before you type anything into an order.

Do not foil the letters USC by themselves

Initials are how this order goes to the wrong school. If the cover should name the university, write University of Southern California or University of South Carolina in full, matching the diploma. A degree title, a graduate's name, or a class year does not have that problem.

My search result says USC. Which school did I open?

Check the full name on the diploma, not the search title. This page is about telling the University of Southern California and the University of South Carolina apart. It is not a size chart for either.

Can one cover work for a couple who both graduated from USC?

Only after you know they mean the same university and you have measured both diplomas. Two people can use the initials and still have different schools, different years, or different paper.

Should the foil say Trojan or Gamecock?

No. Those are athletic nicknames, not the issuer line, and they point at two different universities. Use the degree, a name, or the year unless you have permission for a protected mark.
